Chemically-Strengthened Laminated Safety Glass

Chemically-strengthened laminated safety glass is the only replacement glass approved by federal government regulations for heavy equipment and mining equipment. Premier Windscreens pride themselves on providing Australian standard chemically-strengthened laminated safety glass on all mining equipment and heavy equipment glass replacement installations

Characteristics of Laminated Safety Glass
  • Chemically-strengthened glass is eight times stronger than comparable annealed glass. The surface compression of chemically-strengthened glass may reach up to 100,000 PSI (690 MPa) for a thickness of approx. 0.00125" (32 µm).
  • Chemically-strengthened glass retains its colour and light transmission properties after treatment. Due to its manufacturing process, chemically-strengthened glass has little or no bow or warp, optical distortion, or strain pattern.
  • Chemically-strengthened glass breaks into sharp fragments like annealed glass. Chemically-strengthened glass cannot be used alone as safety glass— it must be laminated.
  • Chemically-strengthened glass may be cut after tempering, but totally loses its added strength for about 1 inch (254 mm) on either side of the cut. These strips revert to annealed glass. It is preferable to cut and edge the glass before it is chemically strengthened.
  • Chemically-strengthened glass loses its added strength when the surface is deeply scratched

Custom Made Windscreens and Side Glass for Heavy Machinery

Many earthmoving machines have flat laminated windscreens and side glass. Providing these widows are completely flat with no curve or structural complex pieces and don’t have holes through the glass, our technicians are able to custom cut and glaze onsite. Being able to cut and glaze onsite reduces the down time of your machine and team.

What tools do flat glass glazier’s use?

In addition to hand tools such as glasscutters, suction cups, and glazing knives, glaziers use power tools such as saws, drills, cutters, and grinders. An increasing number of glaziers use computers in the shop or at the jobsite to improve their layout work and reduce the amount of wasted glass.

Premier Windscreens understands minimising downtime on heavy machinery is imperative to any busy, successful business and we honour our turnaround time. Onsite service is available for most flat glass and machines. Premier windscreens has a wealth of knowledge in all areas and we comply with all A.D.R specifications.
